Snow Day - A Home Adventure

Our Snow Day From 2018
Our Snow Day From 2018

Back in 2018, I remember waking up in my warm, cozy cabin in the northeast Georgia mountains to find a fresh, soft blanket of snow covering the ground. I was shocked and ecstatic since snow wasn’t in the forecast when I checked it the evening before. Even though the snow disappeared within 24 hours, it was so exciting to experience a true snow day at home. A few years laters I sold my cozy cabin in the woods to move closer to the city for work where there were more rainy days and snow was non existent. I eventually moved back up north but more on the west side of Georgia where I could hopefully have another snow day in the future..

We haven’t really experienced anything like that in quite some time. Occasionally, we’d get a light dusting of snow in the early morning, but it would melt before noon. Many times, the news would warn us of winter storms, forecasting inches of snow, possible power outages, and slick roads. Yet, we never got what was promised—just a little freezing rain now and then.

Now it’s 2025, and we’ve had an exceptionally cold winter. A winter storm has been trekking across the United States, heading our way. This time, we actually got snow! It was a lovely morning to wake up and see white snow all around. My dog, Lucy, and I went outside, where she joyfully caught snowballs in her mouth as I threw them.

We walked to the front of the neighborhood, passing kids sliding down hills in their front yards on makeshift sleds. Others were building miniature snowmen by their mailboxes. Snowflakes fell intermittently as we walked, landing gently in my hair. It felt magical to watch the snowflakes dance through the air before settling softly on the ground.

After playing in the snow for a while, we went inside to make breakfast and spent the rest of the day by a warm fire, engrossed in a new thriller on my Kindle. I had my family close and everything I could ever want in that moment. It was perfect.

It may have been freezing outside, but I was

filled with warmth and happiness. This was truly one of the best days ever and a reminder that some of life’s greatest adventures happen close to home.
